Der Staat gliedert sich in eine schmale ca. 600 km lange Kuestenzone mit duenengesaeumten Straenden und durch die Winde angenehmem Klima im Nordosten, das riesige trockenheisse Binnenland und einige sich daraus wie gruene Oasen erhebende Gebirgszuege, wo sich auf 900 m ueber dem Meer Orte mit sehr angenehmem Klima und Brasiliens kleinster Nationalpark (Ubajara) befinden.

With 146.348 km 2 and 8.5 million inhabitants it is one of the medium sized among the 9 northeastern Brazilian states. But its capital Fortaleza is the fifth biggest city in all Brazil: 2.5 million - 3.5 million in the whole metropolitan area. The state consists of a narrow 600 km long coastal area with dune rimmed beaches and a tropical climate moderated by the constant winds in the northeastern part, a huge hot and dry hinterland and some mountain ranges hovering as green oasis over it, where one can find at 900 m over sea level small towns with very nice climate and the smallest Brazilian National Park, Ubajara.
