In the song the eye is a liquid, "water is my eye" which in turn is the "most faithful mirror". The eye itself becomes the tear, the tear as the mirror of our soul.
In the photo the teardrops are actually on the mirror itself. This is a reversal of the imagery of the song. The "teardrops" (photo title) have become little "eyes" looking - back at her.
Here comes the clue, while the "teardrops", the little eyes of her soul look at her, she does not engage with them, nor with the mirror. On the left she looks up on the right the eyes are closed. (I will not now go into the symbolism of looking up and keeping ones eyes closed).
It is, actually, partly contained in the song, where it says that "love is a verb". It is not a state but a process. A process in which looking and being looked at play an important role but where it does not count, nor account - for all. Hence one can, or sometimes even might have to, look away, or keep the eyes shut. Love does not only flourish with affection but it requires peace and freedom. Freedom created by not looking back; peace from not engaging with the other!
This also holds for the love of oneself. And here is the second clue of this photo: the closed eyes, normally seen as a look of introspection. But not so here where the soul is transformed into something else, not inside but placed as little drops on that mirror. Maybe only true love can externalise the soul in such a manner.
And that is what I see in that hint of a smile on your face.
