napa lake means the lake behind the forest. a state-designated wetland located in shangrila, yunnan province, south west of china.

FUN FACTS:
napa lake, also called pana lake or yila grassland is a seasonal highland lake, which becomes a grassland from the beginning of fall, and changes back to a highland lake from spring to summer when the rain season arrives. this picture was taken in the middle of october, 2009.

thanks to Herbert that we found out there's a pana lake in USA, so as to avoid any confusion, i have then changed the name of the lake to Napa Lake.

I've never heard about the Pana Lake. But it must be a Tibet Buddhist place, for there are those prayer flags.

yes, it is in the tibetan region, on the way from Shangrila to Li Jiang. we didn't get enough time to go down there for more shots, but anyway, i'm planning for another in-dept trip to Shangrila, it's just breathe-takingly beautiful there.

yes, I´m an expert for this area.
The search results with napa lake in google are for this lake in Yunnan, the search results for pana lake in google are for a lake in the United States of America :-)

Your pic is showing the Napa Lake :-)))

@ herbert,
the search result was done by key word search in chinese, showing the same lake in yunnan, while in china we are using both names. but double checked the name in english on google, you are right, seems in western world only Napa lake is recognized and the Pana lake represents the lake in usa. interesting!

as 99.9% of the FCers are westerners, i'll just then change the name to Napa lake to avoid confusion. :-)

i did a little bit more research of the names, the result has been put above in the detail of the picture.
