Fondry des Chiens (1)

Back home again from holiday with a set of new pictures.

Today I start with a small series of the ‘Fondry des Chiens’.

***

The ‘Fondry des Chiens’ are vegetated open air limestone caves that have spectacular twisting abysses dotted across a giant deeply incised plateau full of colossal boulders.

The huge pits in these chalk rocks, that have a dept till 20 meters, were made by water during millions of years.

These open air caves are a place of great geological interest and a very unique masterpiece of Mother Nature in Belgium.

Location : Nismes (Belgium)

very primeval and ruggedly beautiful looking! those cumbersome chunks of rock – very impressive! signs of prehistoric human existence inside those pit caves, i wonder? or weren't they used by "us" at all? "des chiens" sounds promising. visions of stone age people taming wolf cubs enter my brain… ; )) looks like a great place to explore, a great territory to hike in! greetings, sabine.

Es ist die Macht des Wassers die diese Formationen schuf - eine sehr interessante Landschaft die Du bestens Abgelichtet hast.
