Santa Barbara colliery, Asturias - Northern Spain

Decomissioned 1994 after a serious accident. Preserved as part of an industrie culture route.
Winding engines mechanical part built by GHH and the electrical part by Siemens in 1956.

    Absolutely, Ruben. I understand that this place looks just as exotic to me as the sites in France and Belgium look to you.

    For me, it doesn't even take something as elaborate as an entire plant. This night shot of a French level crosing is a good example:

    Ralf,
    The building between the two headgears hosted the electric transformers at the left hand side; the compressors at its central part and the offices at the right hand side. At the back you can see the house with the fans. The machine houses with the winding engines are out of the picture.
    Going upstream 10 minutes on foot along the path you can see on the picture, you would come across with another colliery called Espinos. There are another two collieries like this downstream no far away. One of them has been decommisioned in late december 2006.
    I understand you see it so different to central Europe, it happens to me as well when I see the pictures you post from la Loraine, Belgium or Germany.
