The old clock Paranapiacaba

The São Paulo Railway opened its rail line on 1 January 1867. She first served as a passenger from Santos to Sao Paulo and Jundiaí (last season), also served as an outlet for coffee production in the province of São Paulo to the port of Santos. In 1874, it inaugurated the station of Alto da Serra, who would later be called Paranapiacaba.

In the year 1898, a new station is built with wood, iron and plain tiles brought from England. This season had the main feature of the large clock made by Johnny Benson Walker, of London, which stood out amid the fog - very common in that region.

With the increased volume and weight of cargo, was started in 1896 doubling the railway line parallel to the first, in order to meet growing demand. This new line, also called Serra Nova, was formed by five inclined planes and five levels, creating a new funicular system. The so-called new slopes and traversed 11 tunnels in full rock, facing a drop of 796 meters that begins at the foot of the mountain, in Piaçagüera in Cubatao. The route of the railroad was rectified and smoothed and widened the buildings operational. The inauguration took place on December 28, 1901.

The first season was off and reused later as a cooperative of inclined planes. The July 15, 1945, the Station of the High Sierra is to be called Station Paranapiacaba. The October 13, 1946, the Railway was taken over by the Union, creating the Railroad Santos-Jundiaí. Only in 1950 the network is to join the Federal Railway.

In 1974, it inaugurated the system rack grip. In 1977 the second season was off giving rise to the current season. The clock is transferred from the previous season high for the base current of mud brick. The January 14, 1981, a fire broke in the old station, destroying it completely. The funicular system was deactivated in 1982.
