JFK Bust

"I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we, too, will be remembered
not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit."
-President John F. Kennedy in 1962, on behalf of the
National Cultural Center which would come to bear his name.

This eight foot high bronze bust of President. Kennedy faces across
the Grand Foyer of the Kennedy Center to the Opera House stairs.

The 3000 pound bust was designed and created by American sculptor Robert Berks.

The expansive Grand Foyer runs the entire length of the Kennedy Center, along the
side facing the Potomac River and connects the entrances to the Center's three major
performance venues - the Concert Hall, the Opera House, and the Eisenhower Theater.

The Kennedy Center was dedicated to the memory of the
35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

It opened on September 8, 1971.
