Santa Maria 1

Santa Maria Island, Azores.
My last station at the Eastern and elder Azores Island, the only one not of volcanic "birth" and where we can find white sand beaches. The international airport dates from the thirties and served as technical stop over for trans-atlantic flights and still there are many flights from NorthAmerica to Africa stopping here. C. Columbus built here a chappel thanking for beeing rescued during a heavy storm around the Island. Has only a population of 4500 people and hosts an ESA space radio telescope and a space center started to be build for future out of spaces missions.
In the past was home of many celebrities mainly from the States and one can see there portraits on local taverns.
