I totally agree in the topics food and people and I am sure I will agree with the monuments after I have been there. Everyone likes italian food and when a place in italy is famous for food in addition, this can only rise up this issue to the top.
I also like the italian language. It´s the language that can only spoken with a healthy right hand and with three fingers put together :-P
Seriously I made only great experiences in italy. You are blessed with awesome architecture, food, a great sound of language and a very nice way of living.
As a german I really feel a bit of jealousy.

  You shoudn't... You got trains and bus on times, beautiful parks, big modern cities like Berlin where I have been 4 times (the best times).. so alternative, creative, rich in history and museums! As a street art lover I found Berlin the Queen city! Then Hamburg with its modern architecture and alternative docks, Dresden, a real gem, and Munich, the best green city where to live. As for food...well in this case you are right ... even though traditional bavarian food is very good in my opinion :)

It is a shame that I haven´t been so often to Italy yet. I have only seen Roma, Rimini, Ferrara and Venice, but I had a look at wikipedia to get more informations about Mantova. It is a world heritage site and looks very interesting. This picture put the city on my list when a will be in italy the next time :)
