A Refugee Child From Raqqa I

By chance I met a beduin family from Raqqa/ Syria who found a new home in the Jordinian desert of Wadi Rum. I played with their kids (3 and 5 years old) it was beautiful to see them playing and having fun. We were talking about colours- suddenly the older boy pointed on my throat where I have a 15 centimeter long scar from a surgery. He let himself fall into the sand, gestured a cutting with his hand and screamed. I explained the kids i have had a surgery. We made it to turn back to playing- as if this scene didn´t happend. But this disturbing moment didn´t let me cold. The face of the older boy was marked with vitiligo an autoimmune illness of the skin. Through a research back home I learned the roots of the desease is frequently strong psychological stress. I asked myself what did this child lived through in his young age? And it doesn´t let me go.
