Hornbills (Bucerotidae) are a family of bird found in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Melanesia.
They are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently brightly-colored and sometimes has a casque on the upper mandible.
Both the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill, "buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek.

A very good lucky photos. The bill is a bit blown out by the sunlight but to get a photo at all is super. Well done!

much much better than my attempt of the local specimen, I think if I remember correctly they have a red bill here.They are so difficult to photograph as they are always hiding in the trees, so you were lucky to get "him" so exposed. cathy
