How Much for A Piece of Bread

She walked in slowly from the street. Her bible study book in hand , whit a soft granny voice in Italian she ordered an expresso,, then a piece. Of bread . She had the exact amount ,but not enough for the bread. The waiter at the crash register had no sympathy for her. He just pointed at her coins placed upon the counter and pushed then back at her. A woman rised to the occasion and offered her bread. "Thank you", the old woman said. She grasped her expresso in her old weathered hands, and drank it as if it is the Italian basic food of life. Maybe it was life giving. It would give her the energy to walk back home.

I have ordered expresso in Italy. For me it's rocket fuel. Just maybe after she finishes and closes her eyes, she becomes a young woman again.

Italy is such a strange place. What you consume can play with your imagination

One of the most poignant pictures that you presented recently. Maybe it's because close to our daily life. It shows that in the modern world there is no place for old age, infirmity, ugliness. Modern society desperately wants to eliminate all that uncomfortable and disturbing.

I doubt that espresso could turn her into something other than a old lady, with just a little more warmth and dynamism for a few hours...She looks like a english old lady with her funny hat but the reality is saddest
