Life in Punta Arenas (3)

a little neighbourhood "everything" store in Punta Arenas, Chile ... my husband and I never walk only through the nicely preserved downtown streets, fine architecture and parks, but like to explore the "suburbs" to find the other life of a town or city ....
Punta Arenas, Chile - our southernmost stop in South America ....Punta Arenas is the capital city of Chile's southernmost region, Magallanes and Antartica Chilena. It is the largest city south of the 46th parallel. Punta Arenas was originally established by the Chilean government in 1848 as a tiny penal colony. During the remainder of the 1800s, Punta Arenas grew in size and importance due to the increasing maritime traffic and trade traveling to the west coasts of South and North America. This period of growth also resulted from the waves of European immigrants, mainly from Croatia and Russia attracted to the gold rush and sheep farming boom in the 1880s and early 1900s.

The life in the backstreets is often more honest than the shining facades of the main road. The little shop shows,- that it is not a rich area of this world.

Die Städte kann man auch viel besser, weg vom Tourismus kennen lernen und das zeigst du bestens in deinen Bildern.

Living at the end of the world must be just different. Your image gives a good impression of this far-away place.
