.....we visited here with Sue and Harold and had a wonderful time even though it was a misty rain part of the day....

It is all thanks to dear old Henry V111 that such places are now only ruins, but these days such ruins are looked after so that they are as safe as possible for people to visit and look round.
Apart from the magnificent fortiffied Gatehouse [amongst the finest in Europe] this is the only part of the Abbey still standing.
A superb view of it Den, and with good details that probably showed up better because of the damp grey weather.

sad to see such a fine abbey reduced to ruins ...
your image with its fine details lets one imagine
how spendid the building once used to be, and
it must be a special feeling to stand inside the
remaining walls !!!
