Statue of Alexander von Humboldt

German naturalist-explorer Alexander von Humboldt who first came here in 1801.
The statue is placed at the National Park entrance gate.
Between 1799 and 1804, Humboldt travelled extensively in Latin America, exploring and describing it for the first time from a modern scientific point of view. On November 24, the two friends set sail for Cuba where they met fellow botanist and plant collector John Fraser, and after a stay of some months they regained the mainland at Cartagena, Colombia.
The park is named in honor to this unforgotten explorer.

    Hallo Wolfgang,
    Falco hat in der Dom.Rep. gelebt und ist bei einem Autounfall zu Tode gekommen, als ich gerade auf der Fahrt von Berlin nach Hannover war - ich werd's nie vergessen!!!! Kolumbus soll angeblich in dem riesigen Haus nahe Havanna begraben sein, aber es gibt mehrere Grabstätten, angeblich weiß keiner, wo er wirklich liegt.

    Wie recht Du hast, liebe Li-Lo!
    Auf Kuba ist der gute alte Humboldt fast überall bekannt und immer beliebt.
    Aber es gibt noch ein anderes Idol, das man auf Kuba sehr verehrt:
    Christoph Kolumbus, der angeblich in Baracoa anlandete, aber in Wirklichkeit wohl in der Bucht von Bariay in der kubanischen Provinz Holguín.
    Nicht zu vergessen die auf Kuba so beliebten Musiker:
    Bob Marley, John Lonnon und die Beatles, Mozart, der gute Falco und noch viele andere.
