White Elephant at Hsin Hpyu Daw Park
It is said that the white elephant brings peace, stability and prosperity to the nation. When the elephant was discovered it was brought to this park to be protected and visited by the public.
“The white elephants represent peace and weath. They are a sign of the good future awaiting our country”, an elderly buddhist monk was saying.

Weiße Elefanten gelten in buddhistischen Ländern als heilig, versprechen Glück und Wohlergehen. Doch die Art und Weise, wie sie in Burma gehalten werden, könnte widersprüchlicher nicht sein. Insgesamt drei weiße Elefanten vegetieren vor sich hin, sie fristen ihr Leben auf ein paar Quadratmetern. Ich muss sagen, dass mir dieser Platz in sehr unangenehmer Erinnerung geblieben ist. Grüße aus Thailand, wo man weiße Elefanten besser behandelt. Wolfgang
