White Water Lily

Water lilies grow only in stand still freshwaters, like large ponds and lakes, with both leaves and flowers floating on the water surface. The white petals often have a pinkish tinge, as can be seen in the shot.

Hundreds of years ago, the roots of the plant were crushed and mixed with wine by monks and nuns as a contra-aphrodisiac…….
Did it work ? No idea.

Dutch name : Witte Waterlelie
German name : Weisse Seerose
Latin name : Nymphaea alba

An Egyptian Water Lily can be seen in the shot below

lovely!! it's obviously the big pondwise brother ; ) of my dwarf water lily – it was smaller than my hand and i could stalk it beautifully with my camera because there was a plank covering part of the equally tiny pond, so i could sit on it and point my tiny camera directly at its tiny petals ; )! love, how you used the intricate light to bring out its beautiful rosy shine! i'm always amazed at how they change from pink to white, as the day advances – fascinating spectacle! greetings, sabine.
