Saint Blaise is the patron saint of the city of Dubrovnik and formerly the protector of the independent Republic of Ragusa. At Dubrovnik his feast is celebrated yearly on 3 February, when relics of the saint, his head, a bit of bone from his throat, his right hand and his left, are paraded in reliquaries. The festivities begin the previous day, Candlemas, when white doves are released.

The Franciscan Church and Monastery belongs to the Order of the Friars Minor. It consists of a monastery, a church, a library and a pharmacy. It is situated at the Placa, the main street of Dubrovnik
The church was destroyed by the earthquake of 1667. The only element remaining is the decorated portal overlooking the beginning of the Placa, the main street of Dubrovnik. It was sculpted in 1498 in Gothic style .

Nice point of view looking down on the old city of Dubrovnik. So much has been done in the past years restoring it to its old beauty after the terrible years of civil war. Now a gem again. Fine photo, Adele.

J'aime beaucoup cette mise en page qui met en écho ces
2 tours différentes , le clocher carré couvert d'un bulbe et la coupole dans cet environnement de beaux toits de tuiles orange. L'architecture de gauche crée cette profondeur d'image qui entraine notre oeil tout au loin au dessus des toits vers cette mer bleue .

Fantastisch dieser Blick über die Dächer Dubrovniks bis zur Adria. Besonders gefreut habe ich mich über Deine beigefügten Informationen, die ich bei meinem Besuch vernachlässigt habe. Diesen Blick auf die Kirche habe ich ähnlich festgehalten. Beim Vergleich der beiden Bilder stelle ich fest, dass die Kirche nach ihrer Restaurierung schon wieder sehr viel Patina angesetzt hat. Sie ist dennoch herrlich.
