Barong dance in the GWK Cultural Park

The Barong is a masked figure, usually representing an unidentified creature called a keket that appears in Bali during the time of the celebration. For the Balinese, the Barong is the symbol of health and happiness, unlike the witch Rangda (also known as Calonarang). The Barong is brought to life by two dancers, surrounded by ornate crockery. On the mask of the figure hangs a frangipani flower decorated beard of human hair, in which the magical power of Barong is suspected.

Dieses hier ist ein praechtiges Exemplar. Lustig sind die kleinen Barongs, die die Kinder selbst machen, oftmals Schweinemasken, und durch die Doerfer tragen, gefolgt von einem Riesenschwanz Kindern. LG Marlis

  Danke Dir Marlis für Deine Anmerkung, die ich mit balinesischen Freunden gemeinsam lese.
  Ein Großmeister der Maskenhersteller namens I Wayan Thanggu lehrte mich vor langer Zeit, solche Barongmasken mit dem Kopf des Schweines herzustellen.

  Der Barong verkörpert immer die dämonische Macht des Guten.
  Mein nächstes Foto zeigt meine Bekannte Mayang mit einem Barong mit dem Kopf eines Schweines.
