Black Darter (female)

The black darter (known as black meadowhawk in the USA and Canada) is a dragonfly living mostly in swamps and bog pools.

It’s a lovely dragonfly to watch that often likes to perch on a warm sunny spot like this specimen that I spotted in the swamps of the Belgian national park ‘Hohes Venn’.

As you can see in my picture, the female of this species is mainly yellow with black markings.
The male on the other hand is totally black during adulthood (hence the name).
