Castle Rixensart (Belgium)

A modest castle with a keep was already erected in the 13th century on this spot.
The present castle is a jewel of Renaissance architecture and was built in the 17th century.

Just like the castle in Westerlo (see picture below), also this edifice is still completely in private hands of the ‘de Merode’-family, one of the richest noble families of Belgium for centuries.
