    The single lamp indicates a locomotive with no train. We refer to locomotives travelling to or from depots, as is the case here, or to pick up a train as working "light" i.e. not with a load.

    that smells and tastes ... just impressive ...

    but the single light (i've read here somewhere that it is a kind of code for the type of train behind the locomotive) looks very "strange" to someone, used to the front lights as they are on our trains ....
