Haw Phra Kaew in Vientiane

Haw Phra Kaew, also written as Ho Prakeo, Hor Pha Keo.
Its a former temple in Vientiane and situated on Setthathirath Road, to the southeast of Wat Si Saket.
The temple was first built in 1565 to house the Emerald Buddha, which now became the most holy relic inside the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok.
The wat was again destroyed in 1828 when King Anouvong rebelled against Siam (Thailand) in an attempt to regain full independence, and Vientiane was razed to the ground by Siamese forces in retaliation that time.
Tahn the temple has been rebuilt several times again.

The interior now houses a museum of religious art.

    Ich habe das Gebäude in den 80er Jahren noch als aktiven Tempel mit Mönchen erlebt und war etwas erstaunt jetzt darin ein Museum vorzufinden. Ein Besuch lohnt sich trotzdem, vor allem wenn man sich für die Geschichte von Laos interessiert und es sind auch allerlei wirklich schöne Stücke ausgestellt. Gerade heute habe ich ja ein Foto von einem alten Drachen hochgeladen, es entstand in diesem Gebäude.
