Lavabo

at the Cloisters Museum in NYC

Made from Limestone from the region of Burgundy, France in the 13th century,

Originally from the chapel of Sainte-Catherine at Montbellet, near Macon.

The Ernest Brumer Family gifted it to the Cloisters Museum in 1948.

This lavabo ( from the Latin for "I will wash") has two basins; presumably, one was intended for washing hands and the other for washing Eucharistic vessels, which could then be placed on the shelf above (The Cloisters).

Even a waschstand was turned into a piece of architectural art in days gone by - very beautiful details with those arches and churchlike decoration .... a fine image with the casting of the shadow and strong textures !!

Dieses, auf den ersten Blick, unscheinbare Kunstwerk ist sehr schön von Dir entdeckt worden. So schlicht und doch so schön.
Diese gotischen Bögen haben auch etwas orientalisches in sich. Vermutlich auch in der Zeit, wo sich "Abend- und Morgenland" kulturell ausgetauscht haben.
Vielleicht sollten sich die Menschen heute daran erinnern und sich auf die Kunst konzentrieren. Dann hätten sie auch keine Zeit, sich gegenseitig ins Jenseits zu bomben !!!

Viel Platz zum Händewaschen ist dort nicht,
allerdings war die Reinlichkeit der damaligen
Menschen auch nicht die Größte.
Die viereckige Platte rechts hätt ich weggestempelt.
Ich hab es gemacht, es sieht besser aus. Doch
ist es Deine Entscheidung !
