Muscovy ducks

Those Muscovy ducks were the most beautiful I ever saw of this species.

Location : the banks of the river Vesder just downstream from the Gileppe dam (Belgium).

The Muscovy duck is a large duck which is native to Mexico, Central and South America. Muscovies had already been domesticated by various native American cultures in the New World when Columbus arrived. The first few specimen were brought to Europe by the European explorers in the 16th. century.

Very remarkable : although the Muscovy duck is a tropical bird, it adapts trouble free to icy and snowy conditions down to –12°C and even below !

German name : Moschusente
Latin name : Cairina moschata

Just wonderful all these different markings for the different ducks. Great details and colours - really well done. Thank you for the explanation - have seen the duck domesticated in Mexico but she hasn't reached us here.
