Anläßlich des Jubiläumjahres zum 300. Geburtstag von Johann Conrad Schlaun (1695-1773) besuchte Richard Serra 1995 Münster, um die noch vorhandenen Bauwerke Schlauns zu besichtigen. Als Standort für sein Projekt "Dialogue with Johann Conrad Schlaun" wählte er das Haus Rüschhaus - ein aus Haupthaus, flankierenden Nebengebäuden und barocken Zier- und Nutzgärten bestehendes Anwesen, das sich aus einer zentralen Symmetrieachse entwickelt. Serra greift mit seiner Skulptur die vorhandenen formalen Bezugspunkte auf, indem er auf der zentralen Achse einen massiven, um 7° dem Hause zugeneigten Kubus aus Cortenstahl plaziert, dessen Maße - 2x1,5x1,5 m - sich auf den zentralen Eingangstorflügel des Hauptgebäudes beziehen.

Coinciding with the 300th birthday of Johann Conrad Schlaun (1695-1773), Richard Serra visited Münster in 1995, in order to view Schlaun's remaining buildings. As location for his project "Dialogue with Johann Conrad Schlaun," he chose the Haus Rüschhaus - an old estate flanked by satellite buildings, an ornamental baroque garden, and a vegetable garden - all of which is centered around a symmetrical axis. Serra used this central axis as the formal point of reference for his sculpture: a massive steel cube facing the house at a 7° angle. The measurements of the cube (2x1.5x1.5 m) are proportionate to the size of the main building's center entrance gate.
