The Fungi World (141) : Halloween Fungus

The Halloween Fungus (Hallowinia officinalis) is a very rare species that grows only in the neighbourhood of churchyards in the dark evening of october 31th.

It is said that if you pick this fungus, you just bought a ticket to hell as the devil will come and get you soon……

Just kidding of course.

It’s a Common Inkcap, an edible species but poisonous when consumed together with alcohol !
Even a small amount of alcohol that is consumed 2 days before or after eating this fungus can cause a heart attack ! (NOT kidding this time)
So beware !

Dutch name : Grote kale inktzwam
German name : Grauer Faltentintling
Latin name : Coprinus atramentarius
