The Fungi World (220) : Root Rot

Root Rot is an approximately 20 cm. large fungus that infects wounds on roots or tree trunks.

Insects that feed on roots and underground root contact between trees, are the primary reasons of this fungus to spread and results nearly almost in mortality of the host tree.

This fungus can even kill half of a pinewood !

German name : Wurzelschwamm
Latin name : Heterobasidion annosum

lethal for trees - but so picturesque this fungus with his saturated copper colour and the white ring ... I have seen him here - had no idea that insects are involved in the spread of them ... thank you for your as always excellent information !!!

Eine sehr schöne Komposition. Die Pilzart war mir bislang noch nicht bekannt. Klasse, sieht aus wie ein Hut mit Rand.
