A killer !
The Root rot fungus infects wounds on roots or tree trunks.
Insects that feed on roots and underground root contact between trees are the primary reasons of this fungus to spread and results nearly almost in mortality of the host tree.
This fungus can even kill half of a pinewood !

German name : Wurzelschwamm
Latin name : Heterobasidion annosum

You know Mark..I started laughing when I saw this..because, today I saw the same fungus on a tree at the park and had a few shots...When I compared mine with yours , OMG mine was a disaster :-)))This is a fantastic capture with great light and tones!!! Gorgeous..

Das Braun des Baumstammes und der Pilzoberseite sehen wunderschön aus zum Sahneweiß der Pilzunterseite. Toll aufgenommen, Mark! Die Pilze mögen den Baum schädigen, aber sie sind ein fotografisches Kleinod.Gruß Tina
