The Living Forest (279) : Spotted Longhorn

The Spotted Longhorn is a well-marked beetle with a variable pattern of black and yellow markings as a rough imitation of a wasp, which probably gives him some protection from birds.

This species is usually found along hedgerows and woodland margins where it is most often seen on Hawthorn or umbel flowers.

Dutch name : Gevlekte smalbok
German name : Gefleckter Schmalbock
Latin name : Rutpela maculata (formerly Strangalia maculata)

scuttling along on fluffily fragrant feeling ground – sometimes i envy those insects their "lightness of being". must feel great to be weightless enought to tiptoe across flowers in full bloom… ; ) beautiful capture of the wasplike impostor, mark! love, how his slender shape is repeated in the "slenderness" of the format! greetings, sabine.
