The Living Forest (414) : Herb Robert

Herb Robert (also known as stinky Bob in the USA) is a plant that produces small, pink, five-petalled flowers (about 1cm. in diameter) that can bloom from april until the autumn.

Freshly picked leaves have an odor resembling burning tires when crushed, and if they are rubbed on the body it is said to repel biting insects like mosquitoes (although the strong odor is not only highly disagreeable for insects but also for man).

Dutch name : Robertskruid
German name : Ruprechtskraut (auch Stinkender Storchschnabel genannt)
Latin name : Geranium robertianum (syn. Robertiella robertiana)
