Wéris, the Belgian Stonehenge (2)

Wéris is a megalithic site in the south of Belgium and is known as the ‘Belgian Stonehenge’.

Of course it can not really be compared to with the very impressive Stonehenge monument in the UK, but there are quite some many interesting prehistoric relics, graves and monuments to be seen.

Scientists even think that, in the prehistorical Bronze Age, Wéris might well has been one of the most important megalithic centers on the European continent.

In a dark forest, at the foot of the ‘Haina stone’ hill, lies the so called ‘Devil’s Bed’, a flat rock, dating from prehistoric times, in the shape of a bed with a headrest.

It was probably used by Neolithic people as altar for spiritual ceremonies.
In the middle ages however, it was thought that this stone was used as sleeping place by the devil during his wanderings in the region :-))

Hallo Mark.Das ist ja ein riesen Findling,diese Form erinnert mich an "Kaiser Karls Bettstatt" das ist auch so ein riesen Stein im Mützenicher Venn...Kennst du vielleicht...
