Wide, wider, WIDEST

The majestic Mount Ngauruhoe, a reward of walking the terrific Tongariro Crossing. The hundreds of feet walking the popular track will wear the mountain down in time. Maybe it will erupt in anger before that happens...

Climbing this mountain (which is, as most people know, used as Mount Doom in LOTR) is a bit of a hardship. I know a couple who did a marriage proposal half way up the mountain (they couldn't get any higher). Hopefully they don't want to divorce...they'll have to bring the rings back to the mountain! ;-)

By the way, this was an excellent spot to test my new EF-S 10-22 mm lens!
