Newark-bound PATH Train Climbs Ramp to Dock Bridge in Blue Hour

A Newark-bound PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) train of PA-5 railcars climbs the ramp
from the Harrison PATH station to the massive Dock Bridge during a wintry December twilight.

The Dock Bridge is actually a pair of vertical-lift bridges over the Passaic River which carry Amtrak, NJ Transit,
and PATH trains from Newark’s Penn Station to destinations in northern New Jersey and into Manhattan. The tracks below the PATH ramp are the high-speed Northeast Corridor, servicing Amtrak and NJT commuter trains.

While the two directions of PATH tracks run side by side for much of their routes between points and New Jersey and Manhattan, here at Harrison, they flank the broad NE Corridor. As the PATH train climbs the flyover, it is also negotiating the curve that will allow it to enter Newark Penn on the same side as departing trains, although on a different level.

      Happy you liked the motif and colors. 
      Having ridden across this bridge countless times in traveling to and from NYC, and also having had a lifelong fascination with the PATH system, I really enjoyed finding a good viewpoint for capturing the bridge and railway activity, especially as Blaue Stunde arrived, which made it really magical for me!

    Very powerful image. All the lights and the worm-like shape of the train against the background structure have a very strong effect, especially in this beautiful evening light. Emotions and stories are conjured up by this scene, and I feel a certain yearning for going on a night train...

      Most of pictures that are posted in the fotocommunity are not worth a second glance. But there are, in fact, a few gems to be found. And I have experienced with your photos that they belong to the latter category; they do invite lingering and contemplation. That's why I follow your account. I always like the atmosphere in your photos. They give the impression they've been taken with an amount of careful planning and consideration.
