This construction was made possible by contributions from the Greek Orthodox in Venice and Greek sailors passing through the city. Permission to build the church was granted by the Serenissima after numerous requests and endless negotiations. Two social groups played an important role in obtaining this concession: Greek mercenaries who served under Venetian arms and Greek intellectuals. Construction of the building began in 1539 and was completed in 1573.

  CIAo Lucy! grazie per la front page di domani. Non potrò vederla perchè sarò in volo per la Grecia ma mi fa molto piacere che la mia Venezia sia messa in evidenza.

Il campanile è come la torre di Pisa, che pende, che pende e mai non vien giù. Le Postcard di Venezia non passano mai di moda.

  La mia prima macchina in Fotocommunity è stata una Canon G12, davvero ineguagliabile. Piccola, veloce, prestante e facile da usare.
  Con quella ho sfidato tutti i divieti di mostre musei e luoghi riservati... che oggi sono stati tolti, tanto col telefonino si riprende tutto lo stesso ahahah VENDETTA!
