American Goldfinch

One of thr several species that feeds at our feeders over the winter months.
They are fairly common throughout the entire United States. This is the male, the female is more dun colored.

    zebra finch – that name is taken! ; ) but the pattern of his tail feathers would very well qualify, too… an eye-opening image for me, howard, as i have never seen an american goldfinch before! if you asked the few goldfinches who frequent our yard these days, whether they'd consider emigrating to the states, i think they'd all say yes, because of their (very cute) nemesis named "squirrel"! ; )) greetings, sabine.
