Hiding in the rain --- Dendropsophus sp.

Wenn in Costa Rica die Regenzeit etwa Mitte März beginnt, ist das das Signal für viele der Frösche, dass die Paarungszeit beginnt. Wenn man dann Nachts im Regenwald rumläuft sind die Bäume und Stauden voll mit kleinen Fröschen, die nach Partnern rufen. Diese Baumfrosch-Art (wahrscheinlich Gattung Dendropsophus, genaue Art weiß ich nicht) ist mir besonders in Erinnerung geblieben, da der Ruf sehr hoch und fast pfeifend ist. Die beste Beschreibung, die ich diesem Geräusch geben kann, ist das von "Laser-Schüssen" aus Star Wars. Man fühlt sich wie in einer Sci-Fi Schlacht, sehr unterhaltsam!

The first big rain in a Cost Rican dryforest marks the beginning of the mating seasons for most of the frogs in that area. If you then walk through the forest at night, all trees and shrubs are full of little frogs calling for mates. I remember this treefrog species (probably of the genus Dendropsophus, not sure about the exact species) in particularly since they have a really high pitched, short call. The best way to describe this noise is probably a laser shot in the Star Wars movies. You really feel like you’re in the middle of a sci fi battle, very entertaining!
