Remembrance Day
More than 100 years after Armistice Day, the end of the 1st World War where 61 000 Canadian soldiers died .. and still the wars go on ... and soldiers and civilians die .... and veterans return physically or mentally injured ....
Vancouver's Mount Pleasant Cemetery - the last resting place for hundreds of Canadian soldiers ...
The first chapter of In Flanders Fields and Other Poems (a 1919 collection of poems by John McCrae) gives the text of the poem as follows:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Gut, dass die Erinnerung wach gehalten wird. Zu viele Menschen sind schon in zu vielen Kriegen gestorben So etwas sollte eigentlich nie wieder vorkommen, aber ich habe manchmal so meine Zweifel . . . es gibt derzeit in der Weltpolitik wieder zu viele Wirrköpfe, die aber an den Machthebeln sitzen!

Senseless and cruel was the 1. World War (as all other wars). For a few metres mud ground hundreds of men had to die. My grandfather he shot himself into his hand to finish such his participation in the slautering.
There might be lots of critism regarding the EU,-.What ever some shortcoming are, the biggest advantage is,- that we have peace for the last 70 years.

Oui Adèle ! Ne pas oublier cette triste journée où la folie des hommes en a tant fauchés et là, je dis honte à ceux qui ont déclaré cette guerre car ceux qui sont morts, alliés comme ennemis, ne désiraient sans doutes pas s'entretuer pour le plaisir de dominer l'autre.

Splendide et émouvante photo de ce mémorial . Superbe texte . d'hommage . Nous sommes allés l'année dernière à Arras , beaucoup de soldats canadiens et anglais ont perdu leur vie là bas .

The day of remembrance must be a warning to men so that there are no more wars.
Unfortunately, there is still fighting in many places and wars continue to claim victims.
Who knows if one day these horrors will end!

Un jour de souvenir et des mots de poète pour un hommage aux soldats canadiens morts pendant la première guerre mondiale : ici aussi, l'hommage a été rendu, ces pauvres jeunes gens ne reviendront jamais, hélas...Une photo du souvenir qui nous touche particulièrement en France, Adele, vos soldats ont aidé à sauver notre pays! MERCI à eux! Et grand bravo pour ta belle lumière, sur l'herbe aux ombres longues, sur les brassées de plantes autour des noms énumérés...Amitiés et bises à toi, merci encore! Michèle

Die schönen warmen Farben im Kontrast zu den kühlen lassen den Blick innehalten. Aus Gedenken muss konkretes Handeln werden. Die vielen Kriege auch jetzt lassen zweifeln, ob die Menschheit für dauerhaften Frieden fähig ist.
Wünsche ein schönes, entspanntes Wochenende mit vielen interessanten Motiven. Bei den leider wieder dramatisch steigenden Pandemiezahlen wünsche ich ganz besonders: BLEIB GESUND ! Viele Grüße Günther M

Ein trauriges Gedicht für einen traurigen Anlass. Aber der Ort und die Worte dazu sind sehr gut gegen das Vergessen und du hast diesen ort sehr schön festgehalten.
