Statue of The Little Mermaid at Langelinie
The Little Mermaid, den lille Havfrue) is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen, depicting a mermaid. The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen … based on the fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the small statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major tourist attraction since its unveiling in 1913.

Whether surrounded by tourists or seen by herself, the Little Mermaid is such an endearing aspect of this lovely city and a perfect tribute to its "son" H.C. Andersen.

P.S. Wish I could have left a comment on the companion photo. I love your composition and the combination of water and statue textures in that gold-tinged light. One can almost imagine her climbing back on the rock to greet tourists (and photographers) after a nice swim in the harbor ;-)

  danke, Klacky … ja Du hast recht :-)))) und unser "Girl in a wetsuit"
  sitzt meist fast ungestoert und sieht zur Lions Gate Bruecke hin und
  beobachtet den Schiffsverkehr !!!

Ein 'Muss' für jeden Kopenhagenbesucher, wie man sieht :-). Es ist sicher nicht einfach, die Meerjungfrau ohne Besucher zu erwischen ... wenn sie nicht davor stehen, fahren sie im Boot dahinter vorbei :-)). Ein gelungener Schnappschuss.

It is always crowded there. When I was there somebody tried to get the perfect photo position and fell into the water
