I´ve seen such an impressive machine in a technical museum near Leipzig.
Your photo just gives a glimpse of its size. But also shows, how nature and our environment is suffering from deterioration.

  The impact on this landscape is - in the first glance - terrible, I agree. After ending up the mining, this and other pits will be „renaturalized” in a manner that e.g. lakes and forests take place where before fields and pastures had spread over the landscape. Nearby are such areas attracting many people for sailing, biking ...As said before this topic is ambivalent in its nature. Nice weekend Matthias
