...most definitely, both the woman and the old gal she's about to step aboard.

No. 1802 of the New York Transportation Museum's Vintage Fleet of Subway cars is an R9, typical of the type built between 1930 and 1940 for the then-new IND Subway system. Behind her are several more cars of the R1-9 series. Together, they make up this year's Holiday Nostalgia Train, operating on Sundays in December.

The train awaits its departure on the uptown platform of the F Train's Second Avenue Station on Manhattan's Lower East Side. It will operate on the Sixth Avenue Line through Midtown Manhattan, before transitioning to the Eighth Avenue Line at 59th Street-Columbus Circle to run express to 125th Street-Harlem.

But while we wait to ride her, there is much to enjoy in this festive Holiday Season atmosphere, as bands (*) play the popular music of the '30s and '40s, and enthusiastic visitors in period dress dance on the platform or simply tap their toes to the music or enjoy the sophistication of a Cole Porter lyric.

And some simply sought to capture the infectious nostalgia and historic Subway equipment with their cameras...
