Great black-backed gull (juvenile)

As adult, the great black-backed gull is the largest gull in the world and is found on the European and North American coasts of the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.

My shot shows a brownish-grey juvenile with a pale face and beak with a typical white tip.
As the young gull ages, the grey-brown coloration gradually fades away and becomes a black mantle.

It takes at least 4 years to reach maturity.

Dutch name : Grote mantelmeeuw
German name : Mantelmöwe
Latin name : Larus marinus
