Time Travel Under the Streets of Gotham

Shawn and Cindy were among the many "time-travelers" who really got into the spirit by dressing
for the occasion to ride on one of this year's trips on New York City's Holiday Nostalgia Subway Trains.

The trips, which ran Sundays from Thanksgiving weekend to the end of December also attracted lots of photographers, including many who showed up with film cameras, some of which were even of the era of this vintage train of R1-9 cars (*), which ran on the IND 6th and 8th Avenue lines from their opening in the early 1930's into the mid 1950's, and actually soldiered on, on various parts of the system, into the early '70s.

And, if the musical "growl" of the old-style DC traction motor gearing wasn't enough to engage one's auditory nostalgia, the event also featured live swing music on the platforms, and tunes from the era performed aboard the train. (**)
